and the API is…
iTunes visualization!!!1!
As hinted at this means that the address space limitation is relaxed this time around. Try not to make me regret it — still no haxies.
See the official documention at TN2016. You can also use a wrapper like VizKit, just make sure you highlight what’s yours and what isn’t, and do something extra cool.

You bastard. The one weekend I have to myself after weekends of toiling on a deathmarch.

The Technote says:
Well, I didn’t receive that documentation as part of an SDK, but I checked anyway. There is, indeed, a newer SDK on the Apple SDKs page.

It’s a shame that Apple’s SDK sample doesn’t compile without errors and warnings. Hasn’t been updated in years. It needs updating to a native target but that only removes an error and a few warnings.
VizKit is better, but still doesn’t do a clean compile. Looks like the project’s using a copy of GCC without Apple’s extensions.

Actually, as it happens, the documentation in the SDK (i.e. the technote and the headers) does not appear to be newer than the technote on the website. Makes sense. Presumably the only thing added in the 2004 update is the Xcode example project (in addition to the PjB one).
The SDK would definitely make it easier, though. It’s what contains the iTunesAPI.c file mentioned in the technote (which doesn’t look necessary, but does look like it would help a lot).
And now I have nothing more to say about the SDK. [makes zipped-lips motion]
